Who It’s For

A fireplace in the wall between two rooms usually means one side gets the fire and the other side gets drywall. You need one fire both rooms can share—and a way to close it off when you want the rooms to feel separate. If you’re building or remodeling with two rooms that meet at one wall, and you want flame and warmth on both sides without running a gas line or venting, this is the one our team points to. Pick a single-sided unit instead and the second room gets the back of a wall. The Napoleon CLEARion Elite 60 gives the fire to both.

What Makes It Special

The glass is the difference. Napoleon’s patented privacy glass shifts between fully transparent, semi-transparent, and fully opaque, so the same fire connects the two rooms when you’re entertaining and separates them when you’re not. Frost it for a dinner party on one side and a movie on the other; clear it and the fire becomes one long view through the wall.

Two remotes come in the box, one for each room, and each side heats independently. Warm both rooms at once or only the one you’re in, so you’re not paying to heat the dining room on a night nobody’s eating in it.

The fire itself is adjustable too: orange, blue, or combined flames over 15 ember bed colors, so it can read traditional in December and contemporary the rest of the year.

Possible Downsides

• Full heat output requires a hardwired 240V connection. On a standard 120V circuit it delivers half the heat.
• It warms the rooms it joins, not the whole house. Treat it as comfort heat with the furnace holding the baseline.
• Surrounds are optional accessories, not included. Black and stainless steel versions are available.
